Determined evidence requirements to prove discriminatory intent in a prima facie discrimination case under Title VII for discrimination in promotion.
The respondent in this case, an African-American USPS employee, filed suit under Title VII, the federal law prohibiting discrimination in employment. He claimed that the Postal Service refused to promote him on account of his race. The District Court ruled for the USPS, but the Circuit Court ruled in favor of the respondent, who argued that he had enough evidence for a prima facie case. The Supreme Court remanded the case to the District Court.
Legal Momentum's amicus curiae brief focused on the full enforcement of Title VII to prevent employment discrimination for women and minorities.
